Ethics

Some of you may notice that I have been posting "thoughts for the week" every Sunday. My hope for this section is to challenge ourselves through some thoughts. Please join with me. I decided to post Linda's Ethic poem for this week because I have been struggling lots with moral/ethic issues; such as true (v) false, right (v) wrong, worthy (v) worthless, logic (v) illogic. Is it that difficult?? Enlighten me if you had answers. I hope you enjoy reading the poem.

Ethics

In ethics class so many years ago
our teacher asked this question every fall:
if there were a fire in a museum
which would you save, a Rembrandt painting
or an old woman who hadn't many years
left anyhow? Restless on hard chairs
caring little for pictures or old age
we'd opt one year for life, the next for art
and always half-heartedly, Sometimes
the woman borrowed my my grandmother's face
leaving her usual kitchen to wander
some draft, half-imagined museum.
One year, feeling clever, i replied
why not let the woman decide herself?
Linda, the teacher would report, eschews
the burdens of responsibility.
This fall in a real museum I stand
before a real Rembrandt, old woman,
or nearly so, myself, The colors
within this frame are darker than autumn,
darker even than winter--the browns of earth,
though earth's most radiant elements burn
through the canvas, I know now that woman
and painting and season are almost one
and all beyond saving by children.

Rembrandt is one of the greatest painters in the Europe History. If you want to see some Rembrandt's paintings click here.

Leaves & Greenery

This is a piece of my arts. I'm not good at sketching, However, I just wanna share something with you all. အားေပးပါေနာ္... :)

So yeah... I just wish you would take some time at the art piece and answer some questions as you look through it. For example, what do you see? Are there any difference and similarity? Finally, Would you say any of those are not a leaf?

The Legacy for the Generation

My dad passed away years ago; the year I started the college;
We buried him in the cemetery next to the grandpa’s
One day I will join with them
After I finish my legacy.

There were no good-byes for my dad; at least from me;

Because he's still alive within me in many ways

Especially, as a form of freedom and love
That was the legacy that he gave me

And I do cherish the most
.

He always told me where the money is so that I can easily get them when I need
But, I had to submit how/why/where I used it
I always know how much he had.

His retired pay-check wasn’t attractive amount in this century
There was the key understanding between me and my dad;
although he never mentioned it to me;
that I shouldn't use money in vain.

He never taught me how to use the money
But, he simply offered me choices;
To spend all or use it substantially from the capital
Now I realized he left me the best legacy that any dad can ever offer

Which is the freedom of choices;
How to use my autonomy with a respectful spirit;
Oh I cherish thy freedom
I shall pass this legacy to my generation….

Lost in Choices huh?
The picture was taken at the chocolate Cailler factory in Switzerland.
They offered free chocolate to taste. How nice, Yeah?

Tips to the Steps

Here are some tips that I promised. Hopefully, these information would be helpful in somehow. Again best luck with your searching and endurance.

Tip 1

Start Early: It takes time to identify appropriate schools, to collect applications, transcripts, translations and recommendations, and to write and rewrite essays.

Tip 2

If You Snooze, You Lose: School application and visa interview deadlines are important and are not flexible. Don’t waste all of your efforts by being late. Better yet, be early. If you apply early, your application is likely to receive closer attention and you will make a positive impression.

Tip 3

Prove Yourself: Don’t reduce yourself to a TOEFL score. Unless your score is exceptionally high, your TOEFL score will not make you appear exceptional. Rather, it will merely indicate that your English is good enough to study at the school. Moreover, a TOEFL score only reflects your English ability and most of the students at the school are native speakers.

Schools are interested not only in selecting applicants who are capable of doing well at the school, they are also looking for students who are motivated, self-directed and who will contribute to the learning environment at the school and to society generally. So, everything that makes you special needs to be made explicit in your application (in the essay(s), in application questions about extracurricular and community activities, and in your recommendations). Schools are also interested in any difficulties you have overcome– for example, poverty, poor educational opportunities, family problems, etc. Make your application as comprehensive and personal as possible. You are special and full of potential, but if you don’t make this clear in your application, the school will never know.

Tip 3

Be diligent, organized and efficient: Completing the school and visa application process is a long and complicated affair with many steps and many tasks that must be performed on time. You need to carry out this process with surgical precision. Make checklists and schedules and plan ahead.

Tip 4

Seek Advice and Assistance: The school and visa application processed are complicated. Whenever possible you should seek advice from those who have already completed the process. If possible, you should find a native speaker with a college education to help review your application and essay. Don’t guess and don’t rely on rumors.

Tip 5

Take charge: You stand to gain the most if your application is successful. Although your application will be stronger if you seek the advice and assistance of others, you have to do most of the work. If you fail to show initiative consistently then others will be much less likely to help you. If you don’t care enough to pursue your own education with great vigor then why should someone else be keen to help you? Yeah?
